The Inspiration
Bill Stumpf & Don Chadwick

A triumph of modern mechanics now firmly entrenched in popular culture, the original Aeron chair was created in 1994 as a reinvention of an earlier Bill Stumpf and Don Chadwick design targeting the elderly.

In its new hi-tech moulded mesh form, eschewing traditional office chair favourite materials such as foam and fabric, Aeron’s ergonomic design which allowed air circulation, eliminated pressure points and was supremely comfy even after hours in front of a screen quickly became a Silicon Valley status symbol at the height of the dot-com boom. Fortunately for the rest of us, when the boom went bust, the chair rose from the dust – and we’re still embracing it now.
