Kay Bojesen (1886 - 1958)
Having begun his career as a silversmith under the wing of the famous Georg Jensen, Kay Bojesen soon turned his hand to working with wood in the 1930’s. He declared that his animals should be, “round and soft and feel good in your hand” and that, “lines in a product should smile” – and indeed they do. His classic wooden animals, especially the famous Teak and Limba-wood Monkey, have been favourites around the world since the 1950’s.
Made with imagination and each crafted from various woods, his collection includes a Bear, Rabbit, Elephant, Dog, Rocking Horse, Toy Soldiers and a Hippo Pencil Holder. Kay Bojesen was recognized for his toys by the Danish National Committee of the OEMP (World Organisation for Early Childhood Education).
