Jens Risom (1916 - )
"Good design means that anything good will go well with other equally good things"
Born in Copenhagen in 1916, Jens Risom went on to become one of the foremost designers in the 20th Century, a member of an elite group of Danish architects who revolutionised modern design. He studied at the Copenhagen School of Industrial Arts and Design, with classmates including Hans Wegner and Borge Morgensen. Heavily influenced by his father Svens Risom, also an architect, Risom relocated to New York in 1939 to pursue his career.
He teamed with Hans Knoll to launch the Hans Knoll Furniture Company in 1941, before leaving in 1946 to open Jens Risom Design, which flourished under his leadership for 25 years.
