Eileen Gray (1878 - 1976)
"To create, one must first call everything into question"
A designer who was certainly ahead of her time, Eileen Gray was born in 1878 in Ireland, and became one of the pioneer’s of modernism in design. After learning the lacquer trade in Ireland, Gray moved to Paris where she continued to lacquer and eventually exhibit furniture. She turned her hand to interior and industrial design in the 1920s, designing many of her key furniture pieces, which are truly reflective of the decade’s style.
